German engineered and tested to the equivalent of 20 years usage

Rangehood story. Bought previous model DA3060 in 2008 for 700$. Sliding switch blew up in 2009 while still on a warranty – cost of repair would be 450$. Same thing happened in 2010 in 8 months after previous fix and was repaired for free. One filter costs 100$ and we bought at least 10 of them.

It blew up again in 2013 (now). Calling Miele customer support explaing the full story with my doubts about fixing it again – too expensive and can blow up again at any time. Adding that we have tonnes of Miele gear in our house – seeing if a loyal customer will get better treatment. I also had some concerns with bying this new model which, like the old one is “German engineered and tested to the equivalent of 20 years usage”. I was put on hold. Best they could do – a technician service call will cost 150$ and it will be at his discretion if we should pay for parts. Screw it – I will buy Blanco rangehood from Seconds World for $250 with a $50 replaceable filters. Looks like Miele is targeting the consumer niche that I’m not in, at least not yet.
